Second-seeded Novak Djokovic struggled to post a third-round win Monday in the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Calif. Djokovic, the world No. 2 and defending Indian Wells men's champion, hung on to outlast 25th-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), staving off three match points while trailing 4-5 in the third set. It took Djokovic two hours, 35 minutes to down Kohlschreiber, ending the contest on an inside-out forehand winner.

The third-seeded Spaniard will now meet Mario Ancic in the next round, with the unseeded Croatian having struggled past Frenchman Julien Benneteau 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-3. Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic survived a disastrous second set to defeat Mardy Fish 6-1 0-6 6-2.

Watson spent the past six seasons with the New England Patriots , where he previously worked with Browns coach Eric Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. The Browns did not release financial terms. ESPN.com reported that Watson signed a three-year deal worth $12 million, including $6.35 million guaranteed.  

Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was suspended Friday for the upcoming season by coach Chip Kelly after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary in the theft of a pair of laptops and a guitar from a campus fraternity. Masoli, who attended Serra High School in San Mateo and led City College of San Francisco to a national title in 2007, and had been mentioned as a potential Heisman candidate, will remain on scholarship with the Ducks. Masoli has a redshirt year available.
